One-of-a-Kind The most stunning piece of 1st Class Cabin built-in cabinetry we’ve ever seen. It is a great solution for cramped quarters. Ahh, and a fascinating history to boot…
The "S.S. Eider" was a 4722 gross ton iron built vessel, built by John Elder & Co. of Glasgow in 1883 for Norddeutscher Lloyd. Her dimensions were length 429.8ft x beam 47ft, straight stem, two funnels, four masts, single screw and a speed of 16 knots. There was accommodation for 120-1st class, 130-2nd class and 1,000-3rd class passengers. She was launched on 15 Dec.1883 and left Bremen for Southampton and New York on her maiden voyage on 19 Mar.1884. She left Bremen on her last voyage on 31 Jan.1892 and stranded on Atherfield Ledge, Isle of Wight on 19 March 1892.
This unit had been salvaged from the S.S. Eider, fully intact, lovingly restored to perfect and usable condition. When you look at the face, you’ll note a nickel-plated horn on the top right; this is the water funnel to fill the wash basin’s tank, residing behind the mirror. Under the mirror are pigeon holes for writing materials, along with a small locker. Under that is the fold-down desk. And when you release the big central latch, the white & blue china wash basin comes down—behind which are the beautifully nickel-plated soap dishes and water spout. Toward the bottom are the sink drain tank and several more lockers to presumably hold towels etc. The whole unit measures about 69.5” x 22.5” x 10” closed; 21” open. Of course it weighs a ton… This is a once in a lifetime chance at something really beautiful, rare and damned useful. Perfect for your guest room, office, or aboard your yacht. 1st Class, all the way.
